Last week, we had the absolute pleasure of photographing Toby, a beautiful senior Border Collie x Red Cattle Dog, at a local park in The Gap, Brisbane. Toby is now14 and is the most wonderful, loyal companion to his owner, Petra. Toby’s gentle, happy spirit shone through the entire session.

Petra mentioned she was a bit nervous beforehand about how Toby would handle the session. But by the end, she told me just how relaxed and easy the whole experience felt. And honestly, Toby was incredible.

I wanted to capture everything that makes Toby Toby – his love for the outdoors, the way he dips his feet in the creek, his excitement chasing after a ball, and that unmistakable bond between him and Petra. You can feel it just being around them – a quiet, deep connection built over years of adventures together.

This shoot is part of my Tails to Remember series, created especially for senior dogs and those navigating end-of-life care. It's about celebrating the joy, love, and companionship our dogs bring us, while giving you timeless artwork to treasure long after the muddy paws and ball chases have passed.

Toby’s session was everything this series stands for – honouring a lifetime of friendship, capturing the little moments, and creating beautiful memories that last forever.
